Mediation – Helping Couples to reach Agreement

Relationships breakdown and emotions run high and it is difficult for people to discuss important things face-to-face.  This is where a Mediator can help get the talking going and get people to look at what matters to them.

Mediation is a process to help people who have decided to separate or divorce to talk to one another and hopefully agree issues between them.  Mediators are trained to help people reach an understanding about how to make the best arrangements for themselves and their children.  This may involve how the children are looked after, time spent with the children or how finances are to be arranged.

Benefits of Mediation

  • Reduces tension and hostility
  • Helps people make informed decisions that are right for them – helps them reach an understanding or an agreement which they can take ownership of
  • Keeps communication channels open
  • Helps children by showing how their parents can work together to resolve disputes
  • Saves the costs of expensive Court action

Franklin Price is a Resolution Qualified Mediator who being an experienced Family lawyer also understands the law as well as being trained in Mediation skills.

How Mediation Works

Mediators give impartial advice and assistance to help couples understand what really matters to them so that they can make their own choices about the best way to proceed.  They will help the couple reach practical solutions which are fair for both of them and their family.

It is expected that the couple will consult their own solicitor at any time between sessions to take independent advice on what is best for each of them.

When the couple are content with the decisions they have made, with the assistance of the Mediator, he will then prepare a proposal which goes to each of the couples own solicitors for final approval and for completion of the legal formalities with the Court.
