Gareth Hughes

Partner (Barrister)

Gareth is both a Partner and a Barrister in the licensing and leisure team. He is an expert in licensing law, planning, health and safety, environmental health and public finance law. He has also been an elected councillor and stood as a parliamentary candidate in the general election of 2010.

Gareth has acted for leading nightclubs in the West End and Kensington and Chelsea and acts as an advocate on behalf of his clients before licensing committees all over the country and on appeal to the Magistrates Court. He has a considerable portfolio of leading hotel groups, singular elite hotels, major outdoor concert and sporting events and a range of bars, restaurants and other entertainment venues. He acts for all clients in both licensing and planning matters. He has recently acted on behalf of the Indian, French and Russian governments in a major planning application in Kensington and Chelsea. He was previously deputy head of legal services at Westminster City Council and accordingly has a strong inside knowledge of the workings of local government.

Gareth is a regular speaker at conferences around the country including the Institute of Licensing conferences. As a litigator, he has dealt with cases right up to Court of Appeal and the House of Lords on major points of law.
